About the Project

Dada’s Daughters was a series of educational workshops with Grade 10 and 11’s at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. For five weeks over May and June, installation artist Bronwyn Lace and myself worked with the grade 10 and 11’s in creating a performance installation piece. We gave them each 2 metres of white fabric with which they then made into their own outfits. We also gave them one umbrella each, which they had to then sculpt into something else. Some made wings whilst others made rakes or kites. The piece was choreographed by both the girls and ourselves. The final performance took place on the 5th of June at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. The piece was then performed again for Womens Day 2010 at Constitution Hill.
