About the Project

In September 2009 I was commissioned by Visiting Arts, supported by the British Council, to participate in their 1 Mile Squared programme, investigating a square mile around Johannesburg Art gallery in central Johannesburg and ‘mapping’ the cultural, aesthetic and bio-diversity, in association with Kyla Davis and Friction Arts. After about 2 months working and playing in the space, several outcomes emerged including inviting people to map their space, gardening, gaming, learning about plants in the park, drawing the trees in the park, learning how to box and much more! There was a final showing at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
